Know who you will need. Before you need them.

hr goat works out who is likely to leave, what that leaves you short of, and who already works here that could do the job instead.

Next year for Delivery in hr goat: 42 today, 37 likely still here, 46 needed, a gap of 9 with 4 who can move up from inside

First: who will still be here next year?

It counts who you have, takes off the people already leaving, and works out how many more usually go in a year. That is your starting point.

  1. 1Who you have today
  2. 2Who has already resigned
  3. 3How many usually leave
  4. 4Who you are left with

It works that out by how long people have been here. Somebody in their first year is far more likely to leave than somebody in their fifth.

And if you have not been going long enough for it to know, it says so instead of guessing.

Next: how many people do you need?

Four ways to tell it. Pick whichever one matches how you already think about it.

A rule of thumb

One support agent for every 250 customers. You tell it the customer number.

Grow what you have

Grow sales by 30%. It does the sums on the sales jobs you already have.

Copy what works

Open a Leeds office like the Manchester one. It copies what Manchester is made of.

Just list them

You already know. Type the jobs and how many of each you want.

No AI guessing your headcount. Every number comes from your own records or from what you typed.

Sales Lead opens in March: three people inside could move into it, Hannah Weber and Lukas Brandt now, Tomás Reyes with one skill to grow
The bit nobody else does

Fill the gap from inside before you advertise.

For every job you are short of, three options, with real names against them.

Move

Somebody here who could do the job now.

Grow

Somebody nearly there, and the training that gets them there.

Hire

What is actually left once you have looked inside.

And it tells you the catch

Anna moves up. Now Sales Lead is empty.

Every move shows you the hole it leaves behind. If that hole is a job you are already short of, it says so now, rather than letting you find out in March.

On every number

It tells you when it is guessing.

Most planning tools print a confident number and let you build a budget on it. This one labels every figure with how much to trust it.

Certain

A fact, already written down. A contract that ends in March.

Stated

You typed it. We use it as it is and never pass it off as ours.

Estimated

Worked out from enough history to be worth trusting.

Rough guess

Worked out from very little. Still shown, but flagged as thin.

A rough guess never gets a neat range drawn round it. A range around a guess is still a guess.

Nothing happens until you say yes.

Build as many plans as you like and compare them. When you pick one, it creates draft job openings, suggested moves and recommended training for a person to approve. It never changes anybody’s job, pay or contract on its own, and it never decides who gets promoted.

Costs show as team totals, and only to people allowed to see pay. One person’s salary never appears anywhere in here.
